August 25, 2011 5:45 p.m. Washington, DC
Washington Convention Center Exhibit Hall A
This is a part of the festivities celebrating the unveiling of the new MLK Memorial on the National Mall. I will be singing an original tribute to MLK by Phil Morrison and Ron Zack. I also plan to sing "Rose of Love," a song I wrote based on two quotations from the Hidden Words of Baha'u'llah. It is such a special honor to be a part of these events, even for only a few minutes, and I am thrilled to have been invited to sing this beautiful song. I hope that you will be able to come and share this historic moment with me.

A musical introduction to grass roots service in the Baha'i community
My performance will consist of a musical introduction to grassroots service activities conducted by Baha'is around the world for the spiritual enrichment of their local communities. I will be playing a mostly acoustic set of my own compositions and a few covers related to study circles, devotional gatherings, children's classes, and junior youth groups.
Intercommunity Baha'i Center
5103 Revere Rd.
Durham, NC
Carlotta R. Holmes Family Baha'i School
Mission: to be a center of learning for fostering the spiritual development of the human family through study, consultation, action, and reflection.
Driving Instructions due to Construction on Revere Road:
The Baha'i Center is at 5103 Revere Road in Parkwood. We've been assured that at least one entrance to the shopping center across the street from the Center will be open at all times. As of March 1, the entire length of Revere Road, from Highway 54 to Sedwick Road, is officially closed to all thru traffic until July to completely reconstruct seven sections of the road, repave the entire length of the road, and replace some 9,000 feet of curb and many driveway connections.
If you come from I-40 West, get off at Fayetteville Road, Exit 276 (near South Point Mall). When you get off the ramp, turn right, and immediately get onto the farthest left lane for the next light (South Point Mall is your right). Make a left turn onto Herndon Road. A strip mall will be on the right, (and a PF Chang Chinese Restaurant). Herndon is a short street. When you get to the stop sign, turn left (this is Barbee). Go to the second street, Grandale (the first street is gravel) and turn right. Stay on Grandale for about a mile or so, and look for Wenonah Way on your left. Turn left on Wenonah Way, and then left again at the first street - Seaton Road. Seaton dead ends into Revere Road and the Baha'i Center is straight ahead.
If you miss Wenonah Way, the next street is Clermont. Turn left on Clermont and go to the traffic light. This is Revere Road. Turn left, go a ways, and the Center will be on your right.
If you come from Barbee Road, cross Highway 54 and stay on Barbee. After you pass Hunter Road, turn left onto Grandale Road and follow the same directions above from Grandale.
If you come from 1-40 East, take the Highway 55 Exit. Go to the light and turn right towards the intersection of Highways 55 and 54. Go through the 55/54 Intersection and stay on 55. Stay straight on 55 about a mile until you get to Sedwick Dr. (a light) and turn right. When you turn onto Sedwick, there will be a gas station on your left, and strip mall on your right. Go up the hill to the 4 way stop. Turn right (this is Revere Road). Go through the stop light, and then the Baha'i Center will be ahead on the right.

Ayyam-i-Ha Celebration
Boston Bahá’í Center, 595 Albany Street in Boston 02118
Children are welcome! In case of snow, please check the Boston Bahá’í website for information. The program will include live music, a skit by the pre-teens, readings, crafts and refreshments.
The festival of Ayyám-i-Há is celebrated each year from the evening of February 25 until sunset March 1. The festival is intended to help Bahá’ís to spiritually prepare the people for the Fast. The days of Ayyám-i-Há call the people to detach themselves from material things by performing special acts of charity, distributing gifts and being hospitable towards others.
Of this period Bahá'u'lláh writes, “It behoveth the people of Bahá, throughout these days, to provide good cheer for themselves, their kindred and, beyond them, the poor and needy, and with joy and exultation to hail and glorify their Lord, to sing His praise and magnify His Name.”

Soul Food is a free program where people of all faiths, beliefs and backgrounds can come together to reflect on and celebrate our diversity, and be reminded of the common threads that tie all of humanity together. Soul Food is an event for reflection and spiritual growth, combining live music, audio-visual pieces, readings from faiths and philosophers, authors, leaders and indigenous cultures, from all over the world. This vision is inspired by principles of the Baha'i Faith which promote the oneness of humanity. This oneness starts with the transformation of the individual; every individual can do their part to achieve it. Soul Food provides a place where we can explore, without expectations or biases, what it means to be a united human family and how we can make this happen.

Coming to a city near you?
This year (2011) I will be traveling to Boston, Durham, Atlanta, and Seattle. Contact me if you would like to host me to give a presentation (see below), or just to play a concert of originals and cover tunes, in or near any of these cities or anywhere within driving distance of Washington, DC. I am also open to playing at conferences and schools, schedule permitting, if my travel and registration are supported by the organizers.
I am offering to present a musical introduction to grassroots service activities conducted by Baha'is around the world for the spiritual enrichment of their local communities. I would play a mostly acoustic set of my own compositions and a few covers related to study circles, devotional gatherings, childrens classes, and junior youth groups. I have given this presentation in Washington DC, Virginia, Houston, Chattanooga, Atlanta, Los Angeles, and Seattle, and am happy to share references if you would like to learn more from someone other than me.
"Thousands upon thousands, embracing the diversity of the entire human family, are engaged in systematic study of the Creative Word in an environment that is at once serious and uplifting. ... Responding to the inmost longing of every heart to commune with its Maker, they carry out acts of collective worship in diverse settings, uniting with others in prayer, awakening spiritual susceptibilities, and shaping a pattern of life distinguished for its devotional character. ... Aware of the aspirations of the children of the world and their need for spiritual education, they extend their efforts widely to involve ever-growing contingents of participants in classes that become centres of attraction for the young... They assist junior youth to navigate through a crucial stage of their lives and to become empowered to direct their energies toward the advancement of civilization. And with the advantage of a greater abundance of human resources, an increasing number of them are able to express their faith through a rising tide of endeavours that address the needs of humanity in both their spiritual and material dimensions." --The Universal House of Justice, April 2008
